1

Snowman Cake

You’ll need two 8" or 9" round cake pans and a small square pan for this one. Prepare your favorite sheet cake recipe to make enough to fill the three cake pans. Cut the square cake into the shape of a hat. Ice your round cakes with white icing and the hat cake with chocolate. You can add just a few decorations for eyes, a scarf and buttons to complete this cute cake, or the kids can decorate with tasty supplies like sandwich cookies, candy-coated chocolates and sprinkles. Because this will be a large cake, it’s a great option to bring to a party or when you’re hosting friends and family for a winter-themed celebration.

Crisped Rice Snowman Snacks

Your family’s favorite crispy rice treats are quite easy to make into adorable snowman treats! Melt 4 tablespoons of butter and a 10-ounce bag of marshmallows in a large bowl over a double boiler. Stir to combine. Add 6 or 7 cups of crisped rice cereal and incorporate with a spatula. Instead of spreading the mixture into a pan, while it’s hot, roll it into balls. Dip your hands in cold water or a tiny bit of cooking spray to keep the cereal mix from sticking. Then, use white icing to attach two or three balls on top of one another in the shape of the snowman. Once the icing has set, add straight pretzel sticks for arms and use colored icing to make the face, buttons and a scarf. These are a great idea for playdate snacks, too.

Snowman Cookies

Here are two ideas both using cookie cutters that you likely already have in your kitchen. The first snowman cookie idea is to make them with your favorite sugar cookie recipe. Prepare the cookie dough and use either a round cookie cutter or a glass to make a batch of round cookies. You can also make the cookies into three different sizes. Once the cookies are baked and cooled, use icing to pile them on top in two or three layers to make the shape of a snowman. Kids can use white icing, your favorite sparkles and small candies to “dress” and decorate the snowmen during a cookie-decorating party.

Another snowman cookie idea is to use your gingerbread man cookie cutter with the same cookie recipe above. By covering these with white icing, you can give them a snowman look just as easily. The arms and legs on this gingerbread-style snowman give it a cute, animated look.

Marshmallow Snowmen

For these marshmallow snowman treats, you’ll need marshmallows, icing and a few little decorations to dress them. Use two different sizes of marshmallows for the body and head – you may want to cut some larger marshmallows in half. Use the icing to stack the pieces together from largest to smallest. Put them in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes to set. With piping bags, kids can apply colored icing and sprinkles to dress and decorate their snowmen.

5

Snowman Cupcakes

Using a snowman-shaped muffin tin and your favorite cupcake recipe, prepare a batch of vanilla cupcakes. Ice these with white frosting and decorate with either various colors of icing or sprinkles and other festive small decorations.

If you don’t have a muffin-shaped pan but have a small gingerbread cookie cutter instead, use a standard cupcake pan and your favorite cupcake recipe. Give it a festive and warm winter feel using a miniature gingerbread cookie cutter to make tiny “snowmen” decorated with white icing and sprinkles or candies. Set these – and some of your marshmallow snowmen – on top of your freshly frosted cupcakes. Serve on a large tray and enjoy.

Hot Chocolate Snowman

No brisk winter afternoon is complete without hot chocolate! Make snowman hot chocolate by adding a marshmallow snowman to each mug of your favorite cocoa recipe. All you need are some marshmallows, small pretzel sticks and colored icing. Use the pretzels to secure two or three marshmallows together and make a snowman. Place pretzels lengthwise into the marshmallows for arms and legs. This allows the snowman to lie on top of a mug of hot chocolate face-up.
