Shakira’s Shared Space Bedroom

Lifestyle blogger, military wife and mom of two, Shakira Patterson wanted to transform a room into a functional shared space for her daughters, Raegan and Zarie. They had recently moved into a smaller home so Patterson thought bunk beds would help maximize space. As an active-duty military family, she knew that moving again was possible, and Raegan had her heart set on bunk beds for the longest time. She liked that the Pottery Barn Kids Ava Regency Twin-Over-Twin Bunk Bed would work in multiple spaces and could easily convert into two separate beds if they moved into a larger home in the future.

“My goal was to make [the space] feel like they were sleeping right in the middle of a cloud, dreaming amongst the stars in the sky.

It was important to Patterson, who designed the new space during quarantine, that her home be a safe haven that was welcoming since they’d be spending most of their time here. She wanted it to be a place where her family could let loose and relax. She loved that the Ava Regency Furniture Collection was GREENGUARD Gold Certified, which means it contributes to cleaner air in your home.

When it came to styling Raegan and Zarie’s shared space, she wanted it to be airy, sweet and feminine. She chose light textures and a calming pink-and-white color palette to evoke the feeling of sky surfing, which she describes as “sleeping on a cloud at sunset.” She chose GOTS certified 100% pure organic bedding because it’s naturally soft while also being hypoallergenic.

Bedtime stories are a big deal for her girls, so she installed a book wall, as well as extra shelves for dolls and trinkets. She placed the Pottery Barn Kids Lila Floral Antique Rug at the foot of their bunk beds so they’d have a comfy place to cuddle up during story time. As a finishing touch, Patterson added fun pillows and shimmery accents all around. She feels the room reflects her girls’ bright, shiny personalities and is a soothing, safe space where they can create fun moments, big and small.

“I have two very fancy girly girls. The regal furniture, watercolor pastels, bright, fun pillows and gold accents everywhere match their personalities so well.
