Brooklyn’s Dream Bedroom

Brooklyn’s Dream Bedroom

Interior designer and stylist Angela Belt spent a lot of quality time with her daughter during quarantine. Her little girl had grown tired of her bedroom and said it didn’t feel whimsical. She ended up becoming Belt’s client and they worked together on a magical, unicorn-inspired makeover that was later featured on HGTV.
It started with an inspirational Pinterest board featuring a variety of pinks, purples, unicorns and sparkles. Belt also did a walkthrough of the room to evaluate what was working and what wasn’t.
She chose two focal points starting with an iridescent glitter canopy over the bed. This design choice can make a dramatic change to any kid’s bed – they’ll feel like they’re in a tent surrounded by glitter and stars. Belt felt this small upgrade would be a big win for making bedtime easier at night. The desk became the second focal point in the room. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, her daughter didn’t have a desk for studying. To navigate a new homeschooling life, Belt had to become storage savvy to make room for study essentials like a desk and upholstered chair.

“The color palette is grey, white, and pink…a timeless combo that I can continue to mix and add things to as she grows up.”

Organizational pieces were particularly important to Belt. She chose white geometric wall hooks to hang her daughter’s bedtime bonnet, purses and scarves. The designer and stylist picked out a unicorn-style hamper to encourage her daughter to clean up at the end of the day. And finally, she selected the long-lasting Emerson Nightstand for books and coordinating Emerson Dresser for clothing.

The room’s color palette features grey, white and pink, a timeless combination. The hues tie in with the canopy’s sparkles, the blackout curtains’ star print and the desk’s silver hardware. And of course, pink and unicorns go hand-in-hand. The larger furniture pieces are white to help maximize the small space and make it not feel too crowded.

Overall, unicorns are the heart of this magical makeover. From a lamp to an alarm clock, this one-of-a-kind creature gives the room a touch of whimsy and fun.

Homeschooling is becoming the norm for so many parents right now, and we had the same issue as a lot of parents; there was no desk in my daughter’s room.”
