Convertible CribsA crib will usually last as a bed for a newborn until they are somewhere around 3 years old although all kids are different. Some cribs convert to toddler beds and even beds for small children, which makes them a long-lasting investment. The true beauty in this is that your baby will already be comfortable in the crib, so reinventing it as a toddler bed makes for a smooth transition. When choosing the crib initially, it is recommended to purchase a conversion kit at the same time you get the crib. A special blanket or throw is a comforting security blanket that stays with your child as he or she moves from the crib to a bed. It’s another constant for your child as he or she grows up. Faux fur and cotton weaves are so soft on sensitive skin and are oh so warm.
Cribs that convert to 3 in 1 move to a toddler bed with adjustments. When the time is right, the toddler bed can become a full-size bed with a headboard. Put a toy chest at the foot of the bed to double as an extra seat and to store those awesome toys. Much like convertible cribs, toy chests can last through the years. As your child grows, the function of the chest changes. It might be out-of-season clothing storage, then a college catchall. A hope chest could be in the future and a first apartment or home piece of furniture in any room.
The 4 in 1 goes one more level by providing a footboard. Update the bedding to a little more grown-up design. It’s such a milestone in a child’s life when they graduate from a crib to big bed. Your kiddo might want to help pick out his or her new quilt or comfortable. It might be a floral or pom-pom pattern. On the other side of the spectrum, it might be covered with superheroes or rockets. Solid comforters are beautiful, especially with some vibrant throw pillows. Cloud shapes and crescent moons are adorable. An eyelash pillow is loaded with personality, just like the animal-shaped pillows. Many of the pillows and shams can be monogrammed.
As the years move along and the bed is adjusted accordingly, consider hanging a growth chart to keep up with height progress. Growth charts have come a long way from the days of marking up a wall. Many can be personalized with your child’s name on it. Some are shaped in kid-friendly designs like giant yardsticks, butterflies flying and airplanes. They look terrific and serve a very valuable purpose of documenting your child’s growth.
Baby crib mobiles can make the move up too. Move them from over the crib to another focal point in the bedroom. When placed near a heat and air conditioning vent, a mobile will keep moving naturally when the air is on. A fun option is to change them out periodically for extra brain stimulation. You can use a celestial mobile for a few months, then choose a farm animal design. Later on, try a seagull mobile or one with geometric shapes. You might have a future astronaut, farmer, artist, biologist or architect in the making. The possibilities are endless.
Let them know what a star they are to you by hanging a string of letters or putting them on a wall spelling out your little one’s names. A name on display is a proud moment and it adds to the decorating in the room. This is one of those accents that doesn’t age, so you can use it again when you decorate his or her room down the road.
