How to choose the perfect crib:
One of the most exciting parts about preparing for a new baby's arrival is choosing the crib. This decision is definitely an important one because your baby will spend most of his or her time there during the first few months of life and beyond. It's also the piece of furniture that is the center of attention in the nursery. Cribs should be sturdy and safe, but they should also be fun and decorative pieces that you enjoy looking at.
Finding just the right crib can take some time, so find out why the bright and cheery Emerson Crib is one of our favorites.
Construction & Design
Construction of the crib is one of the most important qualities to consider. While babies are typically pretty quiet, toddlers have fun seeing furniture as a personal jungle gym, so it needs to be able to stand up to the wear and tear of even the toughest tots. This classically designed crib with spindle rails has solid hardwood construction made from kiln-dried pine wood to give it strength and beauty.
The structure and integrity of the Emerson Crib comes from the mortise-and-tenon joinery that ensures the construction is strong and secure for many years. Additionally, the use of pin inserts virtually eliminates all possibility of the pins separating from the wood. We use superior hardware and secure spring washers with Blue Loctite to form a permanent bond to the wood.
In addition to durability, you want a crib that has a beautiful design you love to look at. The Emerson comes in two finishes, Cloud and Soft Gray, to brighten up the look of the nursery and go along with just about any decorations you choose. A heavy-duty finish is also important because you don't want it to scratch or chip easily. All finishes on our cribs are designed especially for Pottery Barn Kids to ensure resilience and long-lasting beauty.
Safety is the top priority when selecting a crib, and you can feel confident that your baby is safe and comfortable in the Emerson Crib. Each crib has been rigorously tested to meet or exceed all required and voluntary safety standards enacted by the U.S. Product Safety Commission, the American Society of Testing Manufacturers and the Canadian Cribs and Cradles Regulations. Additionally, the large wood components used in our cribs exceed regulation standards to give you further peace of mind. For more information, see our crib safety tips.
Grows with You
When choosing a crib, it's a smart idea to invest in furniture that your child can use and enjoy for several years instead of replacing the piece at each stage of your little one's life. The Emerson Crib has a sturdy metal mattress platform with three adjustable heights to grow with your baby. When he or she reaches toddlerhood, the crib converts to a big-kid bed so you get the most out of your investment.
